Since we're always growing here (we're at 600+ members!! I'm so happy we're getting so big) it was time to go over the rules again.

Group Rules ---

1. This is a group for fairy tales not Disney/Bluth/Burton or Wicked fanart . There are plenty of Disney groups out there to showcase your talent.
2. We don't accept mythology either; so all biblical people, Greek gods, and such are not going to be accepted here. We're a Fairy Tale group (Grimm, Andersen, Perrault, etc).
3. Art that is submitted must be appropriate. This is a Fairy Tales group, which means although it does not need to be childrens themed, it is coming from the stories we knew as kids. These images should not be trampled on.
4. When you submit art you must make sure that it is applicable to the group's theme (just look at the name!) and it must be submitted to the correct folder. With the size of this group, a lot of time is dedicated by the admins to make sure the art is in the right spots
5. In regards to fairy tale landscapes - if it's specific to a fairy tale then it's ok... we want all the art/lit we receive to be specific to a fairy tale... example - we accept "The Little Mermaid" (not disney's) but we don't accept just any mermaid art out there... it must be of the little mermaid, or some other famous fairy tale. make sense? so we have some landscapes devoted to Wild Swans and same with Bluebeard but we couldn't just accept an enchanted woodland.

We love to get your input and ideas for the group (be it a new folder or a contest idea).

-----------------------------------

You can donations towards the group here ---> [link] and these can be used towards awards to contest winners/making the group a super group (you can specify)

For those of you who missed the last blog entry about the contest winners it's here ---> [link]

What about fairy tale related landscapes? Enchanted castles, magic woods and such.

Regarding the statement "These images should not be trampled on," which I assume is meant to ward off unfortunate implications people seem to need bring to reality. If I were to say, write a graphic novel involving Rapunzel going through a gender-bender and ending up as a long bearded (and haired) prisoner in a gulag (located in a non-political generic People's Republic of Oppression), would this constitute trampling on the image of the original tale? Such an example would be an affectionate parody, but that blurs the lines.

TL;DR
What defines a new, non-fairytale story that stands alone on its own, versus parody that stretches the story to new lengths? I assume that parody must be readily identifiable as such by someone familiar with the story.

Also, if a story were to be sequential art, what is the preferred method of adding sequential art to the gallery (page by page, chapters but with separate pages, and so on) so as to not spam the folder.

As far as your last question you can submit them as you go if you want or up to the amount the folder will allow you to. I have no preferences for the order that they're submitted... it's up to the artist in my book
we set up a limited amount of submissions per folder per day for deviants so i'm not too worried about being spammed. so with that we just need things submitted to the correct folder.

For "trampled on" I feel it is about keeping in mind the maturity content... no sex, gore, intense violence, etc. So if you're wanting to do a rewrite just keep it in the G to PG range. That works for artwork as well. And keep it close to what the characters would actually do.

I'm here for the Cinderella and Oz art!

I love Disney, but I'm thankful that you are not allowing it in this group.

I also think MGM musical related and Wicked related fan art should not be allowed in the Wizard of Oz category.
It is no different than allowing Disney stuff in Cinderella.

I'm not hating on Wicked or anything, but it and the MGM Oz are not related at all to the fairy tale version.

I'm not familiar with the Book "Wicked" (I just know the music from the musical version but that's all) so I personally don't know when fan art of it is coming through... But I agree that "Wicked" and MGM's "Wizard of OZ" fanart shouldn't be accepted. I will try to stop it but if you or anyone else do see any please let us know :) Because I agree it's like letting Disney come through.
