Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

1. The submissions must be an uncommon Fairy Tale or in other words one that Disney, Dream works, or any other famous film maker has not touched. This means that "The Little Mermaid", "Rapunzel", "Peter Pan", "Alice in Wonderland", etc are NOT ALLOWED in the contest just to let us become real creative members of the is Fairy Tale Loving Group.
2. Submissions must be new pieces, can only be ONE SUBMISSION, and must make mention of the contest either in the title or in the info with a link to the group in the info.
3. Entries must be submitted into the Contest Folder [link] and not into any other folder in this group.
4. Any media is allowed so long as it is appropriate. This means photography, drawings, literature, etc are allowed and will be judged in their appropriate categories.
5. We will have a 1-3 place winners in each category and promise all work will be judged fairly... this contest is for fun.
6. Prizes can be requests made to the admins of the group. We will also feature winners in blog entries.
7. Submissions can start now and will need to be finished being entered by the 1st of January.
